Linda Gilbert - also known to friends and family as Ayesha- was born to Mamie Gilbert & Arthur Bigger on January 4, 1968, in Newark, NJ. She lived in Newark most of her life, attending Newark Public Schools and graduating from Malcolm X Shabazz High School. Contrary to the appearance of a reserved demeanor, Linda had a contagious sense of humor and a zeal for life. She did her best to navigate life’s challenges and fought as long and hard as she could to ensure her children were taken care of. She was a gifted singer, talented artist, writer, and had a smile that could melt hearts. Linda was preceded in death by her mother: Mamie Gilbert, and 2 brothers Willie and Kenneth Gilbert. She leaves behind 5 children: Elijah, Ibn, Raqiah, Aziyah, and King. She leaves to honor her memory, siblings Evelyn Singleton, Louise Wilson, Kimberly Nuruddin, and Brother-in-Law Faheem Nuruddin. Her aunts Sarah and Larcine Fleming, Eva Price, and great aunt Florida Mae are also left to honor her memory. Linda’s nieces Jacquelyn Wilson, Kristen Harmon, Jatasha Sharif, Latoya Simpson, and Mahassin Moody along with her nephews David Fleming, Salim Nadir, and Kenneth Simpson are also left behind. Linda leaves a host of great-nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends. Linda accepted Islam in 2020 and lived her final moments at peace. May Allah have Mercy on her, forgive her shortcomings, make her pain and tribulations an expiation. May she be granted a place in His Jannah and May her grave be illuminated and made spacious. Ameen.
