Obituary

Jeffrey Linton, affectionately known as "Hakeem" and "Jersey Jeff' departed this life on Wednesday, April 12, 2023. He was born to the late Millard Nelson and Susan Linton on April 20, 1967, in Newark NJ.

Hakeem graduated from Sumter High School in Sumter, South Carolina. He had a passion for house music, dancing, and cooking. He was a devoted father and loved family outings. He practiced the Islamic faith.

Hakeem resided in New York for 15 years where he picked up the nickname Jersey Jeff, from his best friend Gerri. While residing in NY he was a party promoter, a ladies' man and an amazing dancer. He also loved to cook. During some periods of his life, he was devoted to his recovery in NA. Hakeem's many accomplishments included obtaining an OSHA certificate, a food handling license, and a CDL. He worked as a sanitation driver at The Doe Fund (Harlem) and received a certification. He was a die-hard Cowboys fan and he loved to dress!

He was preceded in death by grandparents James and Ellen Linton, parents Millard Nelson and Susan Linton, stepfather Curtis Dukes, uncle Nathaniel Dukes, brothers Mitchell Williams (BM) and Millard Nelson, Jr.

Hakeem was a devoted father, son, brother, grandfather, uncle, friend. He leaves to cherish in his memory, a fiance Dasean Hay of Newark, mother of his three children Karma Thornton, son Hakeem Linton, daughter Anasia Thornton, son Ahmad Thornton of Newark, grandchildren Kamad Jefferson, Hamir Linton, Zahkie Hay, Zahir Hay, Zaje Green, and Zurich Green. Sisters Frizell Nelson-Johnson and Peggy Nelson (Byron Laws) of Sumter, SC, brother John McMillion of Washington DC, sister Sharon Cooper (Gary) of East Orange, brother Dwayne Linton of Newark, sister Lavie Linton (BL) of PA, aunts Irlen Smith of Murrieta, California, Laverne "Mel" Bryant and Gloria Dukes of Tyler, Texas, Dorris Dukes (Nate) of East Orange, NJ, uncle Richard Linton (Christine) of Florida, aunt Daisy Potts of Irvington, uncle Zack Linton (Valerie) of Florence, South Carolina, great aunt Henrietta Davis of Roselle, NJ, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Special acknowledgements, Hakeem loved favorite cousins Bobby Muldrow, Ricky "Raheem" Teasley, Victor "Salik" Russ which he called his brother. He was extremely close to his ex-sister in law Yolanda Linton, his ex-brother in law Anthony "Ace" Ford, his two best friends Manani Babatu and Gerri Nailzs.
