David Thomas Cauthen was born to Henry Cauthen and Nevora (Sharpe) Cauthen on July 31, 1945 in Pittsburg, PA.  His Aunt Anne took him and raised him in Cleveland, OH until he was around 12 years old.  He then moved to Newark, NJ where he was reunited with his mother and siblings.

David attended public schools most of his life, but after 11th grade he opted to get his GED.  In, Feb. 1965 he enlisted in the Army where he ended up fighting in the Vietnam War.  While in the army he earned a Parachutist Badge, an Expeditionary Medal AFEXM Ribbon citation award, a National Defense Service Medal, a Vietnam Service Medal, a Vietnam Campaign Medal, an Overseas Service bar, and a Double Purple Heart (10LC) Medal.  He left the Army in 1968 as a promotable Sergeant.

David had several loves. He loved playing pool, he loved working on cars (which he did for a living-specializing on foreign cars), he loved his family, he loved Allah and his Muslim faith.

David also had 3 step-children Tremayne Davis (North Carolina), Ericka L. Davis (New Jersey) and Ericka M. Sessoms-Redic (Texas). David was like a father to many, but Audrey (Todd), Simone, John, Teisila, Jamillah, lil Todd and his best bud Ceon stand out.
