We celebrate the life of Alton Hagan, also known as Jameel Muhammad, age 61, who passed away on the afternoon of November 25, 2020. In allowing ourselves to understand that he has moved on to his place with God, let us reflect on the journey of life.
Jameel was born to Nora (Hagan) Martis and the late Jasper Hagan on August 30, 1959 in Newark, NJ. He was the fifth born of twelve children which made him no stranger to family and love. Jameel was a comedian and loved to have fun and enjoy life.
Jameel attended Montgomery street School where he received his High School diploma. He worked many years at Steak and Take Restaurant. He later bought and drove an ice cream truck where he became known as the “Mr. Softie” man throughout the streets of Newark and East Orange.
Preceding him in death are two sisters: LeVonya and Linda Hagan and three brothers: Otis Hagan, Alvin Hagan, and Alexander Jameel Abdul Muhammad.
Jameel leaves to cherish him in memory: His mother – Nora Martis (NC); Fiancé – Vanessa Johnson (NJ); One son – Jameel Hill (Robyn) and grandson – Jacek Hill (all of NJ); Four Sisters – Atrancia Hagan (Dennis), Leola Hagan, Pauline Martis (all of NJ) and Tiyana Cureton (NC); Two brothers – Larry Minter (Arthal) (TN) and Shaboo Nicholas Muhammad (NJ);And a host of nieces and nephews.
Lastly, he has left behind a whole lot of family and friends. He will be greatly missed!
