Sister Catherine Wilson, devoted daughter of Mrs. Linney Wilson and the late Isaac Wilson Senior, was born in Newark, New Jersey, on March 8, 1957. Catherine departed her earthly life on Wednesday, October 9, 2013 at home in the loving arms of her family.
During her youth, Catherine joined the Nation of Islam, and committed her life to Allah. In the years that followed, her journey led her to the teachings of Warith Deen Mohammed. Catherine devoted herself to her faith and service. She was a devout musilimah and an active and loved member of Masjid Waarith Ud Deen in Irvington, New Jersey.
Catherine graduated from Dayton Street School, Sister Clara Muhammad High School, and Essex County College of Newark, New Jersey. For over twenty years, Catherine worked at the Irvington Board of Education where she committed herself to the success of the students in the school. Working tirelessly, even after hours, Catherine ensured that the students were provided with materials necessary to help aid in their academic success, including but not limited to donating books as well as reading-to-students. She traveled extensively, visiting Europe, Canada, and the Caribbean; she always sought to incorporate beautiful cultures into her world. Catherine found her "Love and Passion" in providing service to those less fortunate through her community service, which included feeding and clothing those in need, especially the forgotten men. Always providing words of encouragement and striving to leave behind a lasting impression, Catherine sought to leave every person and place she came in contact with better than when she found it. Most of all, we will never forget Catherine's beautiful and contagious smile!
Catherine will forever be in the memories of the people she came to love and who loved her in return. Her loved ones will remember her, most of all, for her kindness and compassion. Catherine is cherished by her loving and devoted son, Mr. Bilal Taher Wilson; her loving and supportive mother, who provided unwavering care, Ms. Linney Wilson; two brothers, Isaac Wilson and Robert Wilson; one sister, Maisha Amen; four aunts, Darcus Butler, Dorothy Hodge, Daisy James and Ruth Wilson; two uncles, Arthur Pugh, and Henry Pugh; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other loving relatives and many close friends. She is predeceased by: her father, Isaac Wilson Senior; her grandparents, Nellie and Robert Pugh; and Cecilia Wilson and her aunts, Daisy Ashe and Sara Buckman.
