ORTIS THOMAS, JR., known as Otis" or "June", departed this life on August 26, 2013 in West Orange, New Jersey. ORTIS, the son of the late Ortis and Jean Thomas of Newark, New Jersey, was born on July 6, 1951.
ORTIS was educated in the Newark Public School System but received his G.E.D. in North Carolina at the age of fifty. He worked for many years as a truck driver and set-up man for Max Blau. He then started working with his good friend @ U.S.A until he became ill.
ORTIS was a loving and caring father, son, brother, uncle and friend. He loved to make you laugh and tell jokes. Most of all, he loved to gather his nieces and nephews together on any given day or occasion. He was a fierce protector of his family.
Along with his parents, ORTIS was predeceased by: his brother, Barry; his wife, Lucille and two sons, Kareem and Kasim Thomas.
He leaves to cherish his memory: his son, Yusef; his daughter, Towanna; three grandsons, Ramadan, Dashawn and Quamir; three granddaughters, Habeebah,, India and China; one great grandson, Chase Kareem; his brother, Mr. Ronald Thomas; his sisters, Ms. Maureen Thomas Cannady and Ms. Rochelle Thomas Anderson; four sisters-in-law, Ms. Linda Scott, Alnisa, Rosalie Ashworth and Diane Huff; two brothers-in-law, Mr. David Anderson and Mr. Theophillous Johnson; three aunts, two uncles and a host of Nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and a host of friends.
"To the righteous soul will be said: O (Thou) soul, in (complete) rest and satisfaction, come back to your Lord. Well pleased (yourself) and well pleasing unto him!" Enter you then among my devotees and enter you my Paradise". Al-Qur'an 89:27-28.
