Melvin Williams

December 19, 1942 — October 10, 2018

Melvin Williams, son of the late Curtis and Martha Williams, was born on December 19, 1942 in Newark, New Jersey.  He was educated in the Newark school system ultimately receiving his GED.

Melvin will be remembered for his sharp wit and humor.  He could make anyone laugh at his jokes.  He was so artistically inclined and would often entertain his younger siblings with his moveable drawings that made them think they were watching cartoons on television.  He was a sharp dresser and had a swagger that earned him the title of ‘Uncle Smooth’.

Melvin embraced the Islamic religion and was a true and devout Muslim.  Adherence to his religious beliefs was the most important thing in his life.

Melvin leaves and indelible legacy love and loyalty to his family.  He will be dearly missed by his son Al-Tarik Bishop, grand-daughter Keyana Walker, sisters; Mamie Branch, Angela Williams-Huff (David), Bertha and Lena Williams, Chanda Anderson and brother Michael Anderson, seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

On October 10, 2018 Melvin departed this life and is joined in rest by his parents, grand parents Archie and Lucille Harding, Felix and Marie Goines; daughter Michelle, sisters; Ossilee Hall, Debra Jenkins, and a brother Charles Williams.
