Faruq Abdul-Aziz, 67, a retired Newark, NJ, police officer, returned home to Allah on December 4, 2020 at 11:14p.m., surrounded by his loved ones.
Born in Newark on April 11, 1953, Faruq was the treasured son of Roscoe Wright and Jew-el Harris. Faruq passionately served his community and his faith throughout his life. A strong and faithful servant, he founded a non-profit, the Muslim Outreach For Anti-Violence, and lived by its mission statement: "make the world around us a better, happier place.” Faruq’s greatest joy in life was his family. Faruq was a dedicated and adoring father to his seven children. Always in motion, Faruq had an infec-tious smile and a huge heart with capacity for all. He was a force, a jokester and a presence felt. He lit up a room and he will be forever missed. He is survived by a huge, loving family. Janaazh prayer will be held at NIA MASJIID, 231 Roseville Ave., Newark, NJ, on Monday at 12 noon. Burial will follow at Rosemount Cemetery, Newark.
