Ronald Hunter Obituary

Ronald James Hunter aka Ron Muhammad - The Founder of the “Brick City” brand, age 80 of Newark, NJ, passed away on October 11, 2018.

Ron was born in Newark, NJ on May 30, 1938 to Otis Hunter Sr., and Ethel Mae Hunter.  He was the last addition of the sibling trio that was preceded by Marlene ‘Bunny’ McQueen of  Plainfield, NJ and Otis ‘Moms’ Hunter of Bushkill, PA.

Ron was a father, son and sibling who loved his family and friends more than anything else in his life.  He also had extreme love for his place of birth Newark, NJ.  The love of family and city drove Ron to become visionary entrepreneur who spent his life building the brand Brick City to represent his city and most importantly create a legacy that he could pass on to his children and family was one of his greatest jobs in life.  He dedicated his life to a  concept greater than himself which was to provide true economic freedom to his family.

An intelligent man he knew he could not build his dream without a strong foundation so, on February 19, 1963 he married and is survived by Shirley Parramore his rock and      foundation.  This Hunter-Parramore partnership went on to have 3 children: Ronald Todd Hunter, Robert ‘Kareem’ Hunter and Shaakeria Hunter to build upon and carry on the  legacy.  The children produced the next generation of dream builders: Ronald Todd Hunter Jr., Jaysa Mellers-Hunter, Abdul Greggs, Kareem Greggs, Imani Greggs, Tyree Shelton, Nafi, a great number of great-grandchildren and in-laws like Lequita Berrien, Tori Hunter, Tiffany Mellers, and Dorothy Carter.  Ron is also survived by the nieces and nephews of the Parramore family: Tora, Yvette, Yvonne, Rheuben, Abron, Vora, Rosita, Ruthie that he helped raise like his own children and other loving neices , nephews, cousins of the Hunter and McQueen families and friends.

A spiritual man, Ron often attended the Masjid at 20-24 Bradford Place in Newark, NJ where he was surrounded by life-long friends helping to prepare his soul for it’s journey to Jannah ‘bimubarakat Allah’.  His Janazah will be held at his Masjid on Monday, October 15, 2018 at 12:30pm   His interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery 1137 N Broad Street, Hillside, NJ at 2:30pm.

Mourners are invited to participate in the celebration of the life of this great man at Knights of Columbus at 1220 Liberty Ave, Hillside, NJ (908) 688-3197 from 3:30pm -  7:30pm where free Food and a Cash Bar will be provided.
