Huey Glenn Hodges Jr aka (Salaam) was born on November 4, 1950 to the late Tauheedah Abdullah and Huey Glenn Hodges Sr. in Raleigh North Carolina. He graduated from Central High School, and attended Rutgers University in Newark where he met Winifred Thompson. They married in 1973 and out of this union was born Alnise and Al-Salaam.
He enjoyed shooting pool, jumping double dutch, playing jacks, walking & talking. And omg could he talk. He was a jack of all trades who couldn’t sit still. He was a master carpenter & painter, and loved doing all types of handy work for anyone in need of his expertise. One things for certain and two things for sure, Salaam had a Nickname for just about everyone he knew and an infamous word to give. He was well known and loved by all who knew him And will be dearly missed by all whose lives he’s touched. In Salaam’s words “I leave you with the Peace ASA and don’t take no wooden nickels”!
He was preceded in death by his parents, grandmother Elnora Upchurch, brother Azizudeen Abdullah. He leaves to cherish his memories: Wife Edith Ogbulafor-Hodges; Children - Alnise Hodges (boobie), Huey Al-Salaam Ali Hodges (baby boy), his daughter in law Tanaya Hodges, Tariyah Spencer (baby ray); Grandsons - Nafis Hodges (hit -man), Ahmad Al-Salaam Ali Hodges (headquarters), Nasir Nichols (Ali-Nas); Great Grandsons - Jaden Hodges (JJ) & Ashton Hodges (Ash); Siblings- Malik Abdullah, Jameelah Abdullah, Haniyyah Abdullah-Sirmons. Lateefah Souels, Saeed Abdullah, Swiyaa Abdullah,, special friend Clarissa Thomas, god mother Peggy James and a host of loving nieces, nephews, relatives and sorrowing friends.
