Ayyub Shakir born to the late Julia Fleming and Nathaniel Brookins on May 21, 1945 in Sandersville, Georgia.
We are celebrating the beautiful life of a very humble man who has always spent his life helping others. While growing up in Sandersville Ayyub’s spiritual foundation was based upon his family’s Christian values. However many years later, based upon Ayyub’s sterling character he was instrumental in bringing Islamic values to his family. Eventually his family to Al-Islam. After coming to Newark, New Jersey in 1964 from the age of 12 his life long dream was to become a barber. In 1969 began his apprenticeship under Mr. Banks. He cut hair with Mr. Banks and eventually became owner of Shakir’s Barbershop. He has cut hair for more than forty years. In 1970 he met the love of his life Emma Swint. From that union came three devoted children, Shawn, Shawron and Al Samee Swint.
Ayyub leaves to cherish his memory, his wife Emma Shakir, of 49 years. His children; daughter Shawron, Shawn (Tracey) and Al Samee (Brenda). Brothers; Fred Bookins (Helen), Marion Brookings (Anne), Muhammad Beyah (Mary), Abdul Kareem Muhammad Shakir (Muniimah). Sisters; Genetta Williams (Charles) and Jackie Brookins (Nathaniel). Nine grand children and six great grand children, nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Ayyub was predeceased by his parents Julia (Fleming) and Nathaniel Brookins Sr., his sister Catherine Christmas and Elizabeth Brookins and his brother Nathaniel Brookins.
